I need a cheap (0 to 0) high definition camcorder that has good picture quality for cheap films and records onto DVD/harddrive/card. Preferably not a vertical style camcorder. What would be the best quality and easiest to use?

There is no high definition in your price range with good picture quality – or good audio, for that matter.
Entry point is the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9.
Canon and Sony are good brands for camcorders. I recommend Canon ZR900 Mini-DV Camcorder . A decent deal for it is only $212 instead of $250..
