For best low light performance, you should get this HF M40 or HF M400(no internal memory storage) or HF M41(32gb internal storage). Among the 2011 consumer camcorders, probably only Panasonic HDC-TM900k with 3mos sensors can compete with Canon Vixia HF M40/41/400 series with the HD Cmos Pro sensor when it comes to the low light performance. Here are the major differences among the HF M4xx series. Canon HF M400 is the basic model with no internal storage while M40 has 16gb built-in internal storage and M41 32gb with a viewfinder. HF M500 is the 2012 model replacing HF M400 with the improved sensor, which is reported to perform 20% better under the low light condition.
