I've been using my Zoom H2 as a "mic" with my Kodak Zi8. Now that Kodak has finally replaced my malfunctioning camera, I'm ready to test some accessory mics. This video shows three mics compared to the Zi8 camera mic. My post at the Homebrewed Music blog www.homebrewedmusic.com includes samples of a couple of additional mics. In addition, the testing was done with a recorded source so the performance is the same in all cases. This video was edited in Edius Neo 2.5. Title explains it all. I went to Popeye's. Compare this to my other Road Test video that was only using internal mic. www.youtube.com The Sony Stereo mic made it louder and clearer but I still should adjust the gain a bit louder since I didn't even touch the gain settings on the Zi8 at all yet. Side note: image stabilization is on but is still a bit shaky due to my car having lowered springs and I'm using one of those baby tripods where the legs are flexible and I just used scotch tape to secure it to my dash. Not the best set up but it works for the most part.
Here is proof that the illustrious Kodak Zi8 pocket sized HD camcorder will work with just about any kind of external microphone you can throw at it. In this case, these are all electret mics which require a powered mic jack (as opposed to the kind which have a built-in battery). Featured...

here's a test of the zi8 recording my good old Washburn D10s using the internal mic compare to Sony ECM-DSP70P(external) The Sony sounds a bit muffled and there's this high freq noise from it. Stereo imagining is hardly there. I am suspecting it's a fake judging from the comparison video in youtube. What you guys think? The internal mic is very much usable to me.
