I have been trying to find a cheap easy and nice looking way to mount external lens adapters to my Kodak Zi8 video recorder. I have some filters and a wide angle lens from another camera I can use. In this attempt, I try to use an old CD. I thought it might look cool.
The 720p 60fps mode makes a huge difference when it comes to movement. 1080p looks absolutely sluggish in comparison, since it's 30 fps. Unfortunately, youtube doesn't do 60 fps video (I believe). If anyone is interested, I can upload a 60fps video to show the difference (it'll probably be via megaupload). 25mm Lens to 37mm Step Up Ring: www.adorama.com 37 mm Wide angled lens: www.amazon.com Here are some photo's that I took with the Zi8 (you can shoot 1080p still photo's with this camcorder =) Before the wide angle lens: img522.imageshack.us After the lens is attached: img11.imageshack.us -Notice that there is some strong blurring on the right side- Picture taken with my fujifilm finepix z20fd, as a comparison: img812.imageshack.us -I noticed that the wide angle lens starts to blur much more outside than inside. When I film inside (using the CFL lights to improve the lighting conditions in my dark ass room, lol), everything looks good and clear, but when I film outside, everything starts to lose focus. I'm not sure if it's the excess light coming into the camera, or if it's a matter of distance (the camera can't maintain focus on far off objects). If anyone knows more, please feel free to post a comment. Enjoy (^_^)
This is a video describing what I did to my 'Deal Extreme' .67x Wide Angle Magnetic Mount Lens for cell phones, small video recorders, etc... Uploaded raw from the Zi8, recorded in 1080P on 1.06, EIS off, face detection off.
